“How my breakup wrecked someone’s engagement”
I broke up with my boyfriend Kevin because he cheated on me. I stumbled onto his Bumble app when he pulled up his phone and chatted with some girls. After our two-year relationship, he begged for my forgiveness and a second chance but I knew I deserved better and harshly declined. In fact, we had two completely different perceptions of the word “cheating”, which signaled we were going to break up eventually.
A few days later, I heard my doorbell. To my surprise, it was Kevin’s friend Abby, who was recently engaged. We met a couple times at a few house parties because Abby’s fiancé Jeff was close to Kevin since they are on the same hockey team.
Abby asked me why Kevin and I broke up. I told her the truth: it was infidelity. She asked me to give Kevin another chance because he truly loved me and shared her story. Abby was a beautiful, sophisticated, elegant, and wealthy young lady and I had no idea why she was about to marry a loser. She’s a diamond and a rare treasure but she accepts the love she thinks she deserves.
A few years ago, Jeff cheated on Abby on Tinder — to what level — that I’m not sure but it seems that she forgave and gave him a second chance. In fact, even to this day, she still doubts her relationship with Jeff because Jeff shattered their trust. And how do I know this?
